National Engineers Week, or EWeek, is a week-long event dedicated to acknowledging the hard work of everyone in the engineering community, and we were thrilled to celebrate at the  Ritchie School of Engineering and Computer Science. This year, events included themed dress days, tasty snacks, and fun activities aimed at helping students, staff, and faculty to celebrate engineers and their work.

Read-on to get more detail about each day’s events and hear from students and faculty who attended!

Day 1: Club Monday

On Monday, students showed off their sport’s team pride by dressing in the jerseys of their favorite teams. Student organizations at the Ritchie School set up tables to share information about their clubs, and Ritchie School merch was handed out along with pinewood derby kits for the derby tournament that will be held this Friday, 3/03!

Day 2: Donuts with the Dean

On Tuesday, students dressed as their favorite game characters and had the opportunity to get to know Dean Michelle Sabick over donuts! From the tabletop to TV screen, we saw characters from all types of games being celebrated by Ritchie students.

If anyone didn’t get the chance to grab a donut and meet with Dean Sabick themselves, here are eight of her Fun Facts:

Day 3: Wellness Wednesday

On Wednesday, students wore the wackiest parts of fashion from their favorite decades for Decade Day! The Knoebel Institute for Healthy Aging hosted an event focused on relaxation and stress relief with pizza, coloring books, and more to help students de-stress.

Due to issues with the pipes in the building at the end of last week, we’ve had to reschedule the last two events of EWeek.

Update Regarding Days 4 and 5

Our Day 4 plans of a Pancake Bake competition for faculty have been postponed, a new date pending. We will keep you all posted.

The Pinewood Derby Competition has been rescheduled to Friday March 3rd, 2023 from 12:00pm-2:00pm. Derby kits are still available in the second floor engineering office and we look forward to seeing you all there for fun, prizes, and snacks!

All-in-all, E-Week was a resounding success, and we appreciated seeing all the fun and creativity put into everyone’s outfits and participation! We look forward to celebrating this next year.
