As a school committed to sustainability and the common good, the University of Denver (DU) is making strides to be the first university in Colorado—and the country—to house an industrial plastic recycling machine. 

Professor and Interim Department Chair of Electrical & Computer Engineering David Wenzhong Gao, PhD, has been named an Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineer (IEEE) Fellow.

A Colorado company with revolutionary technology to create telepresence robotics, designed to expedite adoption of robotic arms in advanced industrial and commercial applications was among 37 Colorado start-ups approved for funding as part of the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade (OEDIT)’s Advanced Industries Accelerator Grant Program. A total of $7,657,811 was approved during the first grant cycle of 2021 for Proof-of-Concept and Early Stage Capital and Retention Grants that support Colorado’s advanced industries.

DU eSports Club has been home to many competitive eSports teams and several non-competitive gaming communities since 2013. They field competitive teams in games such as League of Legends, Rocket League, Overwatch, and Hearthstone. This year they field two new teams in Rainbow 6 Siege.

Olivia “Oli” Hassan, fourth year mechanical engineering student and President of the DU branch of the Society of Women Engineers, is one of the first cohort members of the Grand Challenge Scholars (GCS) at the Ritchie School of Engineering and Computer Science. Hassan is working on the challenge to “provide access to clean water.” 

Kingsford Koranteng, a PhD candidate in the Department of Mechanical & Materials Engineering, recently won the SAE International Myers Award for Outstanding Student Paper at the inaugural SAE Brake Colloquium Student Poster Competition.

Teaching Assistant Professor Rachel Horenstein, PhD, joined the Department of Mechanical & Materials Engineering this fall. She shared about her research and academic background with her masters in bioengineering.
