What I do

Dr. Rachel Horenstein is the Associate Dean of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice (DEIJ) for the Ritchie School and a Teaching Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Denver. She currently teaches courses in solid mechanics, biomedical engineering, and engineering program assessment. Her research interests include high impact practices, inclusive teaching, and equitable assessment.

Professional Biography

Dr. Horenstein earned her B.S. degree from Boston University in 2010 and her M.S. degree from the University of Southern California in 2014, both in Biomedical Engineering. She earned her Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Northeastern University in 2020 where, as a member of the Multiscale Mechanics and Musculoskeletal Mechanobiology Lab, she investigated the impact of elite-level adolescent sports participation on hip joint development.
