What I do
Dr. Julia Dunn is a Visiting Teaching Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Denver. She currently teaches Introductory Engineering Design courses. Her educational emphasis is on project-based learning.
Professional Biography
Dr. Dunn earned her B.S. degree in Biomedical Engineering from the Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 2019 with High Distinction. She continued her education at the University of Utah where she earned her M.S. degree in 2021 and her Ph.D. in 2024, both in Biomedical Engineering. Her doctoral research was conducted in the Orthopedic Research Laboratory as she investigated the effects of upper limb loss and prosthesis disuse on whole body motion and motor control. Her research focuses on understanding how upper extremity function influences whole-body biomechanics and motor control. By developing objective measures of compensatory movement, Dr. Dunn aims to improve rehabilitation, enhance assistive technology design, and reduce injury risk in both clinical and athletic populations.
