Racial Justice
While generations of Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) have long experienced racism, and continue to experience racism, the injustice and pain of white supremacy has become increasingly visible through social media. Our history as a nation is one of white supremacy built upon systemic racism.
As engineers and computer scientists we condemn racism, and we are alarmed at how systemic racism is being codified into new and future technology as seen in automation, technological products, and data driven policies. To dismantle existing systemic racism and prevent its continuation into a digitally driven society we must do more than simply believe in the dignity of all people and express our outrage: we must educate ourselves, our students, and our academic disciplines and engage in anti-racist change-oriented education, research, and actions.
We are committed personally and professionally to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and we are engaging in this work through the Equity in STEM and Partnership for Equity initiatives. We recognize this is a starting point, and there is much work to be done. We invite you to join us in the communal endeavor for social justice.
