Professional Biography
Dr. Ahmed Abdeen Hamed is a visiting professor of computer science at the University of Denver, specializing in network medicine and artificial intelligence. His research integrates computational methods with genetics, clinical, and pharmaceutical data to address pressing challenges in cancer, COVID-19, and drug discovery.
With more than a decade of experience across academia and industry, Dr. Hamed has held roles as founding faculty and teaching professor at Northeastern University (Miami), assistant professor and program director of data science at Norwich University, and research fellow at SUNY Binghamton. He has also led AI-driven initiatives at the Polish Academy of Sciences, the Sano Centre for Computational Medicine, and Merck & Co.
His contributions include the development of xFakeSci, an algorithm that detects AI-generated scientific misinformation to safeguard research integrity. Dr. Hamed’s work on knowledge verification of large language models (LLMs) such as ChatGPT has also drawn wide attention and was featured in major news outlets, including U.S. News & World Report. His research has not only advanced methods at the intersection of AI and medicine, but has also attracted competitive funding, underscoring its impact and relevance.
Dr. Hamed earned his PhD in Computer Science with a focus in Biomedical Informatics from the University of Vermont and a Master’s in Computer Science from Indiana University, Bloomington.
